Established in 2013, the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) was one of the first established departments in Southern University of Science and Technology of China. The Department is committed to provide high-quality education to students and strives for excellence in research.
The EEE Department has amassed a talented group of faculties with PhDs from world’s top 100 universities. Faculties in the department received many honors and research grants which include 6 Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars, 5 Guangdong Science and Technology Special Plan for Top-Notch Young Scholars, 2 Training Programs for Distinguished Young University Teachers in Guangdong Province, 5 fellows of International Academic Societies and 1 Peacock Talent Team supported by Shenzhen municipality with ￥20 million research grant.

In the context of industrial structure optimization in China, electrical and electronic technologies have become the core in today’s social and economic development. EEE department provides a wide scope of technologies including physical electronics, advanced information processing theory, core electronic devices, advanced microchip fabrication and design. Particular areas of emphasis include broadband communication network, internet of things, new energy, bio-medical electronics, and microelectronics. Professional training in these fields will open up vast employment opportunities in the industry, business and universities worldwide.
Teaching is the Department’s first priority. The department provides the most-up-to-date technical and professional training to undergraduate and graduate students. The Department’s teaching activities for undergraduate students are organized into four broad technical areas including Microelectronics, Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, and Information Technology. At present, the Department is developing Electronic Science and Technology and Information Technology and Telecommunication as the 2 first level disciplines (graduate program system according to Ministry of Education of P.R.C). Since 2016, the Department has carried out the joint Master and PhD programs with more than ten universities, among which are Harbin Institute of Technology, University of Hong Kong, National University of Singapore, Warwick University, University of Birmingham.
Our students also made great achievement in projects and research. Their research capabilities are demonstrated by papers published at international conferences on medical instruments and biosensor, technical competence for national and provincial projects, and outstanding performance at IEEE SUSTech Branch and The Optical Society of America SUSTech Branch.
The Department’s research has been actively supported by national, provincial and municipal’s research funding. With these funding support, the Department has set up Guangdong Provincial High-Level Polytechnic University Special Fund Project for Key Discipline of Advanced Electrical and Information Technology, Key Discipline Project in Guangdong Province, and Project of Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering. According to “2016 China’s University Ranking Report” published by China Alumni Association(ucaa.net), EEE department has several subjects ranked on the top of the list. Electronic Science and Technology ranked 12th by subject, Information and Telecommunication System ranked 19th by subject, and Optical Engineering ranked 27th by subject. The Department is in possession of a number of key research laboratories which including Shenzhen Key Laboratories and Laboratory of Development and Reform Commission of Shenzhen Municipality.
The EEE department is dedicated to assist in the economic and social development of China through teaching and research in engineering, meanwhile provides students with critical thinking, problem solving skills and global prospect. With ultimate aim of becoming the leading engineering department in the world, the Department will continuously striving for excellence, progress and innovation in the future.
