Distinguished Visiting Professor Earns Canada's Highest Civilian Honour

Dr. M. Jamal Deen, distinguished visiting professor of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech Academy), earns one of Canada's highest civilian honours (Order of Canada) on 29 June 2018 – the annual announcements just before the 1 July “Canada’s Day” celebrations. He was appointed for his advancements in the fields of electrical engineering and applied physics, and for his leadership of multiple academic and professional institutions.

Dr. M. Jamal Deen is the first distinguished visiting professor at the department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, SUSTech. He is a highly-respected and influential engineering scientist in micro-/nano-electronics, opto-electronics, nanotechnology and their applications to health and environmental sciences. He has an exceptional record of achievements in micro-/nano-/opto-electronics, biomedical technologies, advanced semiconductor device modeling and flexible electronics. 

During his visit to SUSTech, Dr. M. Jamal Deen gave many inspirational talks, including “Research—A Pleasurable Journey”, “Being a Great Hurdler — Key Ingredients of Your Tenure Dossier”, “Having Fun While Developing a High-Impact Research Career”, and “Want Higher Research Impact — Be a Better Communicator”. Many faculty members and students are deeply influenced by his talks and benefited from the research, academic and life experiences he passionately shared.
