Recently, Liu Zongdai, an undergraduate of our team, as the first author of the latest research results "Emission characteristics of lasing from all organic mirrorless quasicrystal" published in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) international academic journal "IEEE Photonics Journal" (Impact factor 2.177, JCR Q1).

Photonic quasicrystals are similar to photonic crystals and can be fabricated as "laser devices" by means of their "quasi-bandgap" structures. Compared with photonic crystals, photonic quasicrystal lasers can not only provide a similar laser cavity, a small volume, low threshold, high-power micro-laser light source, but also with higher rotational symmetry, more freedom of manipulation, Thus enriched the realization of laser devices, so by the academic community more and more attention. In this paper, the holographic polymer dispersed liquid crystal (H-PDLC) photonic quasicrystal based on multi-beam interference is investigated. The wavelength, polarization characteristics and temperature of the laser are studied. At the same time, we use FDTD to simulate the transmission spectrum of the photonic quasicrystals, and get a high agreement with the experimental data.

Liu Zongdai entered the laboratory from the junior, and run some related research work with the help of Yong Li (a laboratory assistant of our team). The Corresponding author of this paper is the Assistant Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering——D. Luo, who gives the guidance to lab’s work and also very focused on cultivating students' self-innovation capability at the same time.

The study was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (61405088) and the Undergraduate Training Program for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (2016X19).
